Musical renegade Red Shahan says he is in “new and unfamiliar territory.” He and his girlfriend are starting a family and planting roots, raising their newborn girl while renovating a house on three acres just west of Fort Worth.

Professionally, he’s the same ol’ raw-edged singer-songwriter. His second solo album is available for purchase on Friday.

Red Shahan’s Lone Star State roots are unmistakable on songs like “Culberson County,” the title track from his forthcoming album. Set to be released on March 30, the singer-songwriter’s sophomore release features co-writes with the likes of Brent Cobb and a collaboration with fellow Texas up-and-comer Bonnie Bishop.

Galleywinter "Men & Coyotes" Review

It’s exciting when a new artist comes along and delivers a transcendent statement with their debut record.  The manner with which K Phillips stormed the scene a couple years back comes to mind.  K’s effort, American Girls, was dingy, dirty, groovy, rootsy, soulful and flat out different.  All of those things made it a spectacular listen.  Red Shahan’s Men and Coyotes has a similar vibe...
